The government is taking the first step towards removing the postcode lottery for public hospital surgery. From now, people with mildly reduced vision will have earlier access to cataract operations. Health Minister Ayesha Verrall says nearly eight-thousand people are currently on the cataract surgery waitlist, and about three-and-a-half thousand of them will meet the new threshold.
